Chillout Sessions 6 is another fine collection of down-tempo soul songs and striped back house grooves. Following the successful deviation in format heard on Ministry's previous Chillout release, which saw the inclusion of songs from the more Indie and Alternate end of the spectrum. This latest incarnation keeps to the same trend, with a pleasingly solid Australian element present in the mix too.
The first disc is musically very eclectic taking in sounds from Alt. Country and Blues through brit pop to Aussie electro. Artists like Missy Higgins, Jet, Gomez and Coldplay sit well next to Mark Farina, Shapeshifters and Cut Copy to create a diverse yet cohesive listen. By contrast he second disc has a slightly more up beat mid-tempo house groove running through it, with sounds from artists like DJ Gregory, Martin Solveig, Ben Watt, Sandy Riviera and Mr Scruff, all holding a common ground. The very different natures of the two discs could seem contradictory and yet come together to complement each other well.
All in all this is a well-rounded collection of easy beats and beautiful songs, gleaned from the current Australian musical landscape, elegantly package up and just right for a night in on the lounge drinking with friends or a day out in the park lazing around with that someone special.
