Does anybody know what the possibilities for processor upgrades on the Dell Latitude CSx? I know that it currently has a Mobile Pentium III running at 500 Mhz.

Hi Kevin,

In most cases you can easily check the website of the manufacturer for an updated BIOS. As a general rule of thumb it is safe to assume you can upgrade to a CPU that's mentioned as the highest possible clockspeed upgrade option for that particular make and model notebook.

So if it specs out at say 700MHz, don't expect a 850MHz CPU to run on it right away, it might work, but it also might not. Same applies to plugging in a Pentium III instead of a Celeron, if a Pentium III is not mentioned as a upgrade option for that particular make and model, you possibly won't be able to use that CPU.

In all cases it good measure to first see if the motherboard and BIOS support the type of CPU you want to buy, before buying it.

Upgraded CSX Do I need new thermal pad?  Options      

I upgraded my CSX  500 to a 700 (850 process, but no speedstepping). Took almost five minutes! Easiest upgrade ever, just remove the keyboard and heat shield. When I took the old processor off, part of the thermal pad came with it. Is my new processor going to be okay or do I need a new heat shield with a new thermal pad. In the meantime, the processor seems to be running just fine and it make it just a little zipper.

I just upgraded my CPxH board with a 750MHz processor from 500. I didn't replace the pad either and my laptop works just fine. I wonder if my BIOS Flash with the CPxJ BIOS Flash would work for you to get the full 850 MHz. Check out my Post on this board.

我的DELL latitude CSX 是PIII500的CPU，换了个PIII750的显示还是PIII500，
有谁知道怎么改，或跳线类的？
上次用别人一模一样的机器，BIOS已经刷成最新，
换了PIII750或850，BIOS也是只显示500，外频是不用动的，我想要改的
是倍频，测试软件HWINFO显示我的机器是100MHz X 5 =500MHz，
应当是要在板上改倍频的，就是改6倍就是600M，苦于没资料。

我现在需要知道的是文章里说的CSX电脑是不是最高只支持PIII500的CPU，
如果换了700或850的CPU要怎么做？除了升级BIOS，谢谢！
