1959年1月16日出生奈及利亚的Sade，4岁时随母亲举家迁往英国。80年代初在圣马丁艺术学校求学期间，Sade组成生平的第一个乐团Arriva，并尝试填词谱曲，《Smooth Operator》就是这个时期的作品。1984年1月，Sade和CBS签约。

1984年2月，以《Your Love Is King》引起全球歌迷的注意与喜爱。这首单曲登上英国排行榜第6名。同年，Sade推出处女作《Diamond Life》，分获BPI奖最佳英国专辑与格莱美最佳新进艺人奖的肯定，而这张专辑在英国排行榜的停留时间更达98周之久，其中一首《Smooth Operator》跻进全美流行榜Top 5。Sade的第二张专辑《Promise》，一发行即登上英国榜冠军，《The Sweetest Taboo》、《Never As Good As The First Time》等单曲亦畅销一时。
1988年，Sade的第三张专辑《Stronger Than Pride》问世.专辑《Love Deluxe》，其中的《No Ordinary Love》获选成为电影《 Indecent Proposal》插曲。在本届格莱美中，她入围年度最佳流行女歌手、年度最佳流行演唱专辑两项提名。
